Brother Christopher Barnett was initiated into Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. through the Eta Tau Chapter in 2009 and has been a financial member on all levels of the fraternity since that time. He is a National, District, and State of Mississippi Life Member. He was elected Chapter Keeper of Records and Seal in 2010, and held that position until 2012. During his time as KRS, he worked tirelessly to make sure that the brothers in his chapter received communication as it related to the fraternity. He was also responsible for making sure that all national, district, state, and local reports were submitted. Also as KRS, Brother Barnett helped revive the Sons of Thunder mentoring program, which targeted 20 young African American males ages 8-18. He served as MSP coordinator for both Eta and Eta Tau chapters as well as Scholarship Chairman.
In 2012, Brother Barnett was elected Vice Basileus of the Eta Tau Chapter and worked to appoint chairpersons for each committee. He also worked with the Basileus and KRS to develop a budget for the chapter, as well as serving as the head for many projects such as canned food drives, breast cancer awareness, blood drives, talent hunts, and annual reclamation cookouts.
In 2013, Brother Barnett was elected the State of Mississippi KRS. His first priority in this new position was to ensure that the Basileus and KRS for each chapter in the State of Mississippi were accurate. This helped improve communication to the chapters by keeping them informed of pertinent information from national, district, and state officers. Brother Barnett also worked with the Mississippi chapter officers to make sure quarterly reporting, on the graduate and undergraduate level, were submitted timely. During the 2nd Quarter of FY14, all 30 chapters in the State of Mississippi turned in reports, which was the first time this had been accomplished in several years. As a result of this service, Brother Barnett was awarded Graduate Omega Man of the Year for the State of Mississippi at the 2014 State Meeting held in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Brother Barnett has also represented the State of Mississippi and Eta Tau Chapter by attending State and District meetings, including Undergraduate Summits, Conclaves, and Leadership Conferences.
In 2014, Brother Barnett was elected Basileus of the Eta Tau Chapter and continued to serve the fraternity in this new leadership role. As a result of these accomplishments, Eta Tau Chapter was awarded Small Graduate Chapter of the Year at the 2014 State Meeting held in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
In 2016, Brother Barnett was appointed as the State of Mississippi Marshal for the 2016 State Meeting held in Vicksburg, Mississippi. In this role, Brother Barnett worked with community leaders, to include convention bureau and elected officials, to ensure all accommodations for meetings and amenities were received by the Fraternity.
In 2017, Brother Barnett was elected as the State of Mississippi 1st Vice Representative, which required committee oversight, development of goals and objective for each year, and performing duties assigned by the State Representative. In this role, Brother Barnett was also very instrumental in organizing the annual State Meetings, to include agenda and committee booklet development, as well as coordination with the appointed State Marshal.
In 2020, Brother Barnett was elected as the 19th State of Mississippi Representative for Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. In this statewide leadership role, he was responsible for overseeing all graduate and undergraduate chapters across Mississippi, representing the state at 7th District Council and Conclave meetings, and ensuring that chapter operations aligned with the Constitution and By-Laws of the fraternity. His duties included coordinating statewide initiatives and service projects, mentoring chapter officers—particularly Basilei—and facilitating leadership development throughout the state. He also managed official communications, reports, and correspondence on behalf of Mississippi’s membership.
In 2023, Brother Barnett began serving as the Chapter Advisor for the Eta Chapter at Alcorn State University. As the advisor, he provides ongoing guidance to undergraduate Brothers in the areas of chapter operations, program planning, academic performance, and leadership development. He ensures compliance with both university regulations and fraternity risk management policies while supporting the planning and execution of service events, intake processes, and campus engagement. In this role, Brother Barnett serves as a bridge between the undergraduate chapter, the university administration, and the 7th District leadership, helping to cultivate responsible, scholarship-driven young men who represent the true ideals of Omega.
